I have learnt much in the years since I first travelled to PNG over a decade ago. Most especially about the nuanced, fraught, colonial relationship that, as an Australian, I have with the country. As such, some of the words, sentiments and thoughts in this blog may seem outdated. Upon reflection and with feedback from a courageous reader, I have changed one particular blog image as it was inappropriate. All the written content I have left as is, as I decided that they can stand as a reminder of what my world view was then - and that I, too, had and have much to learn about my whiteness, my privilege, my power and myself.
